“The whole history of the progress of human liberty shows that all concessions yet made to her august claims have been born of earnest struggle. ... If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”

Frederick Douglass

History of Crime Victim Rights Week

In 1981, President Ronald W. Reagan declared the first National Crime Victims' Rights Week and soon after issued an Executive Order that established the President's Task Force on Victims of Crime.

Fourty-three years later National Crime Victims' Rights Week provides an opportunity to increase awareness about the challenges faced by crime victims and to highlight the long struggle to establish victims' rights..

Crime Victim Rights Week 2024 (April 21 - 27, 2024):

National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) will be commemorated April 21–27, 2024.

The 2024 NCVRW theme is How would you help? Options, services, and hope for crime survivors. The 2024 theme asks all of us—friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, community leaders, victim service providers, criminal justice practitioners, and health professionals—how we can help crime victims.
