Rosalind Robison
April 17, 1959 - Nov. 17, 1983
Rosalind had started college at Indiana University, but moved to Texas with her family when her father decided to take further medical training at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She originally considered Texas A&M, but there was no housing available. On her family's first visit to Austin, they ran across Newman Hall, a Catholic dorm for women. Although the Robison family is not Catholic, Newman Hall was willing to take Rosalind, and she spent two very happy years there. She LOVED UT, and was really glad she had not gone to A & M after all! After those first two years, Rosalind and one of her Newman Hall friends rented an apartment together to have more room. Rosalind did receive one bachelor's degree from UT, but had developed an interest in petroleum engineering, and decided to study for a second bachelor's degree in that field. On the evening of Nov. 17, 1983, Rosalind told her roommate (and best friend) that she was going to run some errands, including picking up some class notes at the petroleum engineering building. Her friend never saw her again. As Rosalind was leaving the building and going to her car, two men approached her with a rented handgun. They abducted her, forced her to withdraw money from her bank's ATM machine, raped her, and drove her to a gravel pit in Williamson County, where they killed her with one shot through the head. |
