Anita was born on Aug. 26, 1969 at Houston’s Methodist Hospital. She was the only child of Sarah and Alfredo Byington. She was a very caring and giving person and always felt very deeply about people that were poor, discriminated against or in bad health. She graduated from Alief Hastings High School in 1987 and enrolled at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) the same year.

During her senior year (1991), at the age of 21, she was murdered in Austin. The accomplice was sentenced to 50 years and has been eligible for parole every two years since 1993.

Sarah passed away last August and besides my mother, the two most precious beings in my life are gone. My faith in God and with friends and relatives I have been able to cope as well as I can.
